Stinging Nettle with Kristine Brown + Homeschool Curriculum Sample
I’ve known Kristine Brown for many years, and it was such a delight to sit down and chat with her about her love of nettle - a plant that herbalists love to love! Even though I have immersed myself in nettle love for years, I learned some new things about this wonderful herb during our conversation. And it was so much fun to hear about Kristine’s herbal journey and how she came to develop her herbal zine and amazing herbal learning system for children.
If you homeschool your children - or even if you don’t, but simply enjoy sharing the gifts of herbs with the children in your life - you’ll love the Herb Club expanded curriculum sample that Kristine is sharing with us! This free, downloadab...

My Phillips ancestors migrated from Tennessee to Missouri and were on the same year census in both states. In one state they were of color and the other they were Native American. What I see growing wild here is what you described as wild bergamot. What actual differences?

    You are a wonderful teacher. I'm not sure if the plantain locally (in SC) is the same. It has velvety leaves. They have the spikes with the seeds just like a wide leaf plantain. The leaves are small compared to the wide leaf plantain. I'm a bit nervus to use it. I have purchased wide plantain seeds and grown some of those, but not enough to make anything out of. Still, the video was great and as always a powerhouse of knowledge. ;-)

    Recently discovered this plant when going for goji berry bush from a lady locally who was selling it. Later I learned that a co-worker has a growing wild on his 5 acres and allowed me to chop down and try to transplant a bunch of it. It seems to work very well as an anti-inflammatory when consumed in large amounts of tea over a few days. In small amounts I don't know this that effect or any other as I had a glass earlier this morning when I made a fresh big pot of tea to jar and was still in pain and discomfort from the work I did in the yard yesterday as well as the gym. Maybe because I am a larger man with arthritis and many spots throughout my body I might need to consume large amounts regularly. I have yet to try rubbing the fresh leaves on my body I only currently have one plant in the garden I tried to transplant to like I stated and all the leaves wilted so I remove them left the stocks planted in the ground hoping they come back if this fails might have to find some starter plants to put in the garden

    • @HerbsWithRosalee
      @HerbsWithRosalee 7 дней назад

      Hi, that's great you are finding it useful in large amounts. We typically use 1 oz by weight of the dried stinging nettles per day (in a quart of boiled water; steeped for 4-8 hours) long-term for best results. This can be every day for many months/years. If you can get seeds from your co-worker's stinging nettles, they grow readily and you'll soon have plenty. Cheers, Karin Rose

    Hello Rosalee - I’d like to know how you dry your herbs

    • @HerbsWithRosalee
      @HerbsWithRosalee 7 дней назад

      Hi, there are many methods to drying herbs and the best way really depends on your climate. For those of us in arid (dry) climates, it is pretty easy to lay them out in a single layer and air dry. For small pieces, a paper bag can work well. For those who live in humid climates, you may need to employ low heat. No matter how you dry your plants, keep them in the shade or inside in a darker room. Airflow helps, too. Cheers, Karin Rose

      Hi, we typically use herbs/plants when they are vibrant and putting their energy into the part we are harvesting. Cheers, Karin Rose

    I think there may be a problem nibbling on plaintain seedheads/seeds, tasty tho they may be. I understand that eaten without water they have a tendency to form "clumps" in the intestinal tract which don't shift away easily & can cause gut problems. So I recommend don't eat them like you would eat pumpkìn seeds - better to grind the seeds up first, & soak in water to produce a mucilage gel/paste which is beneficial & passes thru the bowel without clumping problems because it has first been constituted with water.

    Its amazing how tall, spreading, & lush in growth, broad leaf plaintain can be if you manage it in cultivated ground. It doesnt need to be stomped flat in a lawn or in a stony walkway for it to reach its best. Get yourself a plaintain patch & have medication on tap.
